Pi Day!!! 3.14

I'm a little late with this post, but on Friday, March 14, I celebrated Pi day with my students in my classroom.  It was great to take a day off from the regular schedule that we normally have in the classroom.  I brought in pie for all my students to enjoy! We did a activity where we discovered how pi was created! Students colored Pi symbols to hang in the room, complete word searches and did a online scavenger hunt on questions that were all related to Pi! I had made a special T-shirt to wear on Pi day and had all of my students sign the back of it!  Students thought that was so cool! They kept asking me if they I was planning on doing this every year and to save them!  Students really enjoyed the day and learned new things at the same time! Remember to celebrate the small things too!

  1. It's the little things that are the most important! Your kids are going to remember that day for years to come. Love Pi day, celebrate it all the time with my 5th graders as well.

  2. I love this! And I completely agree with Courtney, it is the little things that they will remember. It is so great that you took the time to incorporate something meaningful while learning!

  3. This is what teaching should be all about! Not only did your students learn about Pi through the multiple intelligences but they saw how fun math could be! As the ladies above me already said, your students will remember Pi day for years to come.

  4. Days like this will get you through the days when you want to pull your hair out or your questioning yourself! In Kindergarten, I love our holiday days and simple celebrations (100th day of school, Dr. Seuss Day). You get to see another side of students, as do they. They get to learn in a more relaxed setting. For some, it's the break they need to get back on track, for others, it's the break they need to know that they can do it, and most importantly, it's what they need to know learning is fun! What's in store for next year, it'll be 3.14(.)15!?
